Morane-Saulnier MS-230

The Morane-Saulnier MS-230 trained student pilots between the two world wars. Built from 1929 onwards, the two-seater monoplane was handy, rustic, and very easy to fly. So much so that the French Air Force ordered 500 of them for military flying schools. In the 1930s, the Patrouille d’Etampes (ancestor of the Patrouille de France) used the MS-230 for training. Prestigious aerobatic pilots such as Alfred Fronval, Michel Détroyat and Hélène Boucher adopted it for air shows. As a tribute to these pioneers, the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace (Air and Space Museum) has hung a Morane Saulnier 230 upside down from the ceiling.
