Mount Humboldt, in the background of this aerial shot, is the second highest point in New Caledonia with 5,301ft (1,616m). Located in the Central chain, much further south than Mount Panié which is 36ft (11m) higher, it offers a viewpoint which simultaneously embraces the west and east coasts of Grande-Terre. It can also be seen when approaching Tontouta airport.
