Le monogramme qu'utilisait Hugues Capet (Les lettres RHEG) est un hommage rendu au plus célébre carolingien, Charlemagne.
D'après les historiens, il semble qu'Hugues ait été acclamé roi par l'assemblée de Senlis (peut-être le 3 juin) puis couronné et sacré roi le 3 juillet à Noyon
Ce monogramme apparait pour la première fois sur un document daté de 989.
