The Château Mourgues du Grès estate in the Gard department bears a name derived from the Provençal mourges (monks). It was developed from the 16th century by the Ursulines of Beaucaire. The word grès in its name refers to the pebbles of the Costières de Nîmes and the specific terroir that gives the wines a unique character. The Château Mourgues du Grès extends over 160 acres (65 ha) of vines between orchards, scrubland, and cypresses.
