Many associations - such as the Poindimié Popwadene association in this photo - are implementing projects to replant, clean, protect, rehabilitate and value the New Caledonian mangrove. By involving citizens of all ages locally, they allow them to reclaim these unique ecosystems. In the region of Nouméa, for example, where urbanization has led to a significant decline in mangroves, the Association for the Protection of Nature in New Caledonia works with the management committees and other environmental or neighbourhood associations, like the Rivière Salée or Gaïacs associations, on large-scale safeguarding operations.
