Following Seine's floods in the 1950s, the authorities decided to revive the construction project of water reservoirs in the Orient Forest. In 1966, Orient Lake, then called lac de Lusigny (Lusigny's Lake), was inaugurated. It consisted of the lake, canals, dikes, and bridges and extended over the territory of 19 municipalities. Over the years, Orient Lake has become a site of major ornithological interest. Its 6,177 acres (2,500 ha) extend inside the Orient Forest Regional Nature Park.
