Migratory corridor

The Common Crane (Grus grus) is a migratory species that nests in north-eastern Europe. At the end of summer, cranes return to their wintering grounds several thousand miles further south. In France, the migration corridor, which is always the same, is only 124 miles (200 km) wide. It links the north of Alsace, Lorraine and Champagne to Aquitaine and the Hautes-Pyrénées. There are three areas where most of the cranes migrate and winter: the Woëvre in Lorraine, the Champagne wetlands with the Champagne lakes (Der-Chantecoq lake), and the Gascony moors in Aquitaine.
