Metamorphosed rocks and sandstone
0
0
The island of Port-Cros (on the right) mainly consists of metamorphosed rocks. This dominance is reflected in the construction materials of the island's numerous military forts, even if a few porches are carved out of sandstone. Some small quantities of sandstone are indeed visible on the island, especially at the Pointe du Tuf. This term refers to an aeolian sandstone resulting from the fossilization of a dune dating from the end of the last Würm glaciation, around 10,000 years ago.
