The lower part of giraffes' legs undergo a very high blood pressure due to their size and their almost permanent standing position. They have a very resistant capillary system to avoid oedemas, called rete mirabile in Latin. This capillary network, also called marvelous net, has inspired the anti-g outfits of astronauts and fighter pilots.
