Hermann's tortoises found injured in the wild are generally the indirect victims of the human presence. 36% of the cases of mortality and injuries noted are attributable to brush cutters and 12% to road traffic. As for the injuries inflicted by dogs, they represent 30% of the cares to wild Hermann's tortoises, according to the SOPTOM statistics of the Tortoise Village of Carnoules. Such figures led to the recommendation to keep dogs on a leash during walks in the natural environments home to the species on one-third of the Var department.
