Memorial at Riesenkopf in France

On the night of 2nd/3rd December 1944, Halifax MZ807 was one of 503 planes on a mission to bomb Hagen in Germany. Return conditions were atrocious, with dense fog and planes encumbered by heavy icing.
MZ807 lost its right engine and crashed into the side of Riesenkopf, a mountain behind Soultz Haut-Rhin in Alsace, France.
Six crew members died and one survived. The memorial to the crew is a magnificent stone at the exact site of the crash.
