Melting furnaces

In 2010, the Lalique factory invested in an electric basin furnace, so as to produce a crystal without any impurities. Until then, the high quality standards of the manufacture meant that almost 40% of the pieces produced were scrapped! Designed for clear crystal, the basin furnace operates continuously with a production capacity of 6 tonnes per day. The traditional fireclay pot furnace is still used for coloured crystal. The stages of hot shaping of the pieces are identical from one furnace to the other: picking of the crystal in the furnace then pressing in moulds or blowing by the master glassmakers (for vases and bottles).
