Each time the Sedan Castle was expanded, the earlier buildings were not destroyed but integrated into the whole. This approach saved the builders valuable time. For example, within the Bastion des Dames (Ladies’ Bastion), the small châtelet of Evrard II de La Marck and the artillery tower of Robert II are still standing. As a result, the Ladies’ Bastion remains the only one without artillery casemates. To keep an eye on the surroundings, the sentries stood in a watchtower (photo), a small corbelled tower at the corner of the bastion.
