"Martin-chasseur", a unique species in Niau
Named Koteuteu by the inhabitants of Niau, this bird who lives in coco tree trunks is endangered. Notably, in regard to the threats posed by cats and rats who climb in the trunks and eat its eggs and chicks. Against these animals which were imported by the men, the "Martin-chasseur" has proved powerless. The local population has mobilized in order to prevent him from disappearing.
