La marmotte des Alpes est un mammifère fouisseur de l'ordre des rongeurs. Elle vit dans les milieux ouverts de montagne, entre 800 et 3 000 mètres d'altitude. Son habitat idéal est un terrain meuble où creuser un terrier, à proximité d'un herbage bien fourni et ensoleillé, avec une vue bien dégagée pour surveiller l'arrivée de prédateurs.
