Most of the indigenous peoples of West Papua are concentrated in the mountains and on the northern highlands. They have been practicing a slash-and-burn agriculture akin to gardening for millennia and cultivate sweet potatoes, yams, taro, and corn which they sell thanks to the infrastructures of the rare coastal villages, like here the market of Agats.
