Maré observatory cliffs

0
The island of Maré in the Loyalty archipelago is a raised atoll whose cliffs peak at 426ft (130m). For a good part of the 19th century - from the 1840s - they served as observatories for the Protestants of the English missions who monitored the attempts to disembark of the Catholics of the French missions, the island being plagued by real wars of religion.
