Unlike other Ciconiiformes, the Marabout stork flies with its neck folded like herons. Despite being a wader, it is in many ways closer to vultures. Carrions are its primordial food resource. Its naked head and neck allow it to sink its beak deeply into the corpses without defiling its feathers.
