Mangrove areas are specific ecosystems made up of shrub plants associated with non-shrub halophytes capable of adapting to extreme selective conditions of salinity, duration of flooding and sedimentation. In New Caledonia, they cover more than 35,000 hectares and present a great floristic richness with 190 species among which 10% are endemic.
