At the time of reproduction, the stilt mangrove trees (Rhizophora spp.) - the most represented in the New Caledonian mangroves - are covered with small white honey-bearing flowers which turn into fruits. Their seeds germinate while the fruits are still attached to the branches and develop a propagule (i.e. an autonomous structure of dissemination and reproduction) of several centimeters in length which is shown to us in this photo.
