In New Caledonia, for over twenty years, individuals and associations have surveyed the mangrove and planted mangrove trees to restore the degraded zones. Fishermen collect floating propagules to insert them directly in the soil or grow them in a nursery before planting them on the chosen sites. The Koniambo Nickel industry has even developed an innovative above-ground nursery which recreates the tides.
