Mangrove, a hostile environment for most plants
3
0
The flora of the New Caledonian mangrove is dominated by the Rhizophora mangroves, which occupy 55% of its total surface, and by the Avicennia (14%). The unstable, flooded, salty and poorly oxygenated mangrove soil is a hostile environment for most plants ; those which survive have adapted by developing aerial roots or systems of salt excretion through their leaves.
