In Mangareva as well as in the Gambier archipelago, the cooler waters between June and October favor the development of coral reefs in the lagoon. Born on the bedrock of the underwater flanks of the island, the corals remain close to the surface of the water to capture the light necessary for their survival and are visible by transparency.
