The managing body of the Verdon river is the Verdon Regional Nature Park. It stands as both a mixed syndicate and a supporting structure for the SAGE (Water Development and Management Scheme) and the environmental contract of its watershed, the space drained by the Verdon and its tributaries on the surrounding slopes. A sub-watershed of the Durance basin, the Verdon is one of the largest watersheds in Southern France with a surface area of 1,425 square miles (2294.61 km²).
