Mana Pools Small Elephants

I’m just a photographer but I noticed that elephants in Mana Pools, Zimbabwe are much smaller than others in the region. Mana means Four in Shona language. In 2019, Mana Pools was hit hard by a drought. This was hard to understand as the Zambezi river was flowing and trees had leaves. The problem is that leaves that could be reached were either higher and could only be reached by taller elephants or the ones who could stand on their two feet. The lower reachable leaves were on trees that are not part of elephants diet. They gave them diarrhea that proved to be fatal in some cases. This drought still does not explain the size of Mana Pools’ elephants. No ranger or guide could give me a satisfactory answer.
