The piece of wood usually rests on a masonry wall that aims to separate the construction from the ground and preserve it from the destructive effects of moisture. On the wall sits a horizontally placed piece of wood called a sandpit that forms the basis of the construction. It is in this room that all the other parts of the frame come together. The corner pieces called corn poles are assembled in the sandpit.
