Built in 1967, after 10 years of gigantic work, the Lac du Der was born in the heart of Champagne. It is the refuge of many birds. Quiet areas are reserved for the 300 species of birds recorded to date. From daybreak comes the flight of thousands of Common Cranes (Grus Grus). Some come to spend the winter or for a break before migrating south, Birds arrive by the thousands: common cranes (Grus Grus), geese (Anser Anser), bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), wild swans (Cygnus) and Bewick's swans (Cygnus columbianus bewickii), goldeneye (Bucephala clangula).
