The Souleuvre viaduct was built from 1887 to 1889 according to plans by Gustave Eiffel. Rising to a height of 205 ft (62.50 m), it allowed the Caen-Saint Lô-Vire railway line to cross the valley over a length of 1,195 ft (364.20 m). It is made up of five pillars in granite from Vire built with sand from the Chausey Islands. The viaduct's deck was dismantled in 1970, and its railway line removed.
