Loyalty to the territory and to the partner
1

Niau Kingfishers tend to be loyal to their territory and to their partner over several years. Both parents take part in the excavation of the nest in dead coconut palm trunks, in the incubation (20-25 days) and in the feeding of the chicks (around 26 days) as well as of the young which have taken flight, during approximately another 2-3 weeks. The breeding season runs from October to February from mating to the chicks' emancipation. Females lay 1 to 2 eggs usually once, sometimes twice if breeding fails, per season.
