The spider lily, Crinum asiaticum, is found on the sandy shores of the Polynesian islands where it is called 'riri'. Imported from the Indo-Pacific zone to Tahiti in the mid-19th century, this tropical plant gives white tubular flowers with pink-purple stamens. Its sensual scent with notes of vanilla and spices would have the ability to awaken love. However, one should watch out for the toxicity of its bulb which contains alkaloids.
