Madine Lake extends in the heart of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park that constitutes the green lung of three major cities in the region: Metz, Nancy, and Verdun. The plain of Woëvre and the Meuse plateau surround it. They consist of varied landscapes of marshes, forests, and valleys. Numerous mirabelle plum orchards and vines grow at the feet of the Côtes de Meuse, and the Woëvre plain has become the breadbasket of Lorraine since the draining of its wetlands over the centuries.
