By lowering the handle of his tool, Robert Marichy - a woodturner in Arinthod in the Jura department - presses the bevel of the blade against the wood he is ‘butting’. He should tilt the handle until he finds the ideal glide angle to clear the chips. If the tool is too horizontal against the roughed part, it will only scrape the wood instead of cutting it.
