Globally, the multiple reef terraces - like those of Shabadran Bay on Maré-Island - are very localized. In the Pacific zone, the most developed are located on the north coast of New Guinea and on the Loyalty Islands. This location near the edge of the Australian plate suggests a relation between their formation and the tectonics linked to the dynamics of the plates.
