Little Ireland

West of Cherbourg in the Cotentin region, La Hague Peninsula is often called Little Ireland. Its Normandy bocage meadows grazed by sheeps are surrounded by low stone walls or hedges of oak, ash, chestnut, and a few cherry trees. The violent winds from the Pointe de La Hague and the Raz Blanchard, one of the most powerful currents in the world, complete the comparison with Ireland. The Normandy bocage is a protected area, and action plans have been put in place by the Natura 2000 network to preserve its hedgerows of rich biodiversity.
