Lions are not very comfortable in trees and are rather clumsy to move and reposition themselves. They can be seen in trees with easy access and slightly inclined trunks. In the rainy season when the grass is high, they sometimes climb trees to escape the swarms of flies and horseflies that thrive in the grass, or to observe the surroundings. They can also climb in a tree, for instance when charged by buffalos.
