Lion's claws, a fearsome weapon

While resting, the retractile claws of the lion are hidden inside the paws, especially to prevent from claw-wearing. They are used to hunt, to fight and sometimes to climb. To take care of them, and keep tendons flexible, lions are used to scratch tree trunks or bushes. Scratching the bark helps them to keep their claws sharp.
