The lighthouse of the Sanguinaires, completed in 1844, is the first of five lighthouses built on the Corsican coast to ensure the safety of steamships. The materials needed for its construction have been transported by barge and on donkey backs. Three guards worked there until its automation in 1985. In 1863, it was visited by the writer Alphonse Daudet.
