Lighter chairs

Louis XV style chairs appeared in the 1720s. They were mainly used in living rooms and were made in pairs or small series. The chairs and armchairs were lighter and more flexible. They were often covered with tapestry or luxurious fabrics matching the panelling. Small two or three-seater ‘bergères’ appeared, conducive to conversation, from which they took their name. The legs were becoming more refined and curved, their ends ending in a snail or roquillard (a more or less elaborate spiral).
