Lifou Island, population distribution

The island of Lifou and its neighbour Tiga form the municipality of Lifou, the chief town of the Province of the Loyalty Islands. The municipality of Lifou alone constitutes the Drehu customary area, itself subdivided into three districts : Wet in the north, Gaitcha and Lossi in the south. These districts include 37 tribes. The population of 9,195 inhabitants in 2019 is mainly Melanesian.
