Bien qu'il ait été longtemps accusé de tous les maux, il faut savoir que le lierre n'est pas une plante parasite comme le gui. Il possède ses propres racines et ses crampons ne lui servent qu'à grimper sur son support (arbre, mur ou poteau en béton) afin de capter assez de lumière pour fleurir et fructifier.
