Leucate is a popular destination for kitesurfers of all levels. Coussoules beach located north of Leucate is considered one of the best kitesurfing spots in Europe. Relying on the tramontana, kitesurfers enjoy optimal conditions for wind sports there. The invention of kitesurfing as a recognized discipline took several years. The first board, released under the name ‘flysurf’ already aroused interest at the ‘Mondial du Vent’ (World Wind Sports Competition) in 1998.
