The Dominican convent in Unterlinden was founded by two noble widows in the first half of the 13th century (1232). The convent chapel was consecrated by the Dominican Albert the Great in 1269. The monastery was a centre of Rhenish mysticism. In the 13th and 14th centuries, it experienced intense artistic, spiritual and economic development. The stained glass windows in the choir have a fine design and a great variety of colours. The oldest were made by Strasbourg masters in the early 14th century. The church is now part of the Unterlinden Museum.
