Rebecca Campeau’s Trognes

Comfort has increased steadily over time since the creation of the first railway lines. In the “Quais de l’Histoire” area of the Cité du Train-Patrimoine SNCF in Mulhouse, you can go inside the first passenger carriages of the early 20th century. In this 1907 fourth-class car, everything is made of wood, functional but rather poor in terms of comfort. Dummies bring railcars and platforms to life. Created from rags and dressed in period clothing, the “Trognes” of designer and sculptor Rebecca Campeau represent the workers and users of the railway.
