The treasures and objects exhibited in the Hôtel-Dieu museum of the Hospices de Beaune shed light on the art of living of the elites of medieval Burgundy and the know-how of the artists and craftsmen of the 14th and 15th centuries. The museum presents the former wards for the sick and their operation from 1452 until the 20th century, but also testifies to the patronage of its founders Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins and the donations made by wealthy benefactors. In particular, 17th-century wall paintings are exhibited there as well as a large collection of tapestries and chests (photo) from the 15th to the 17th centuries.
