The ancient mines of the 'Cloup d'Aural' are the remains of the phosphate rush of the 19th century. Thanks to the presence of clay and phosphate, the 600 or so species found at the bottom of the 98 feet (30m) 'phosphatières' are still in good condition. Thousands of bone remains, seeds, mummies of amphibians and other insects have been found. Every year, archaeological excavations are organized there.
