On the occasion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar unveiled to the world pharaonic architectural creations signed by the greatest names in world architecture such as Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster, Ieoh Ming Pei, Rem Koolhaas, Arata Isozaki, Zaha Hadid or César Pelli. Free of financial constraints, the architects had only the sky as their limit. The business district of West Bay (Doha) is home to some of the most astonishing towers. For example, the Al Dana Tower with its spherical pearl-shaped conference room suspended from the 20th floor of the building. Or the 722 feet (220 metres) curved and aerodynamic Navigation Tower, which is reminiscent of a ship’s sail. Or – in the centre of the photo – the Tornado Tower with its hyperbolic shape animated at night by lighting effects.
