The soils of Clos de Vougeot
0
0
Clos de Vougeot’s soils are mainly composed of limestone. The upper part of the winery (about 265 metres above sea level) has a very stony soil, a mixture of clay and gravel, on a limestone base dating back to the Bathonian age (Middle Jurassic). As you go down, the soil becomes loaded with Bajocian marl (clay and limestone); it becomes heavier and compact. Finally, in the lower part of the Clos (about 240 m), the soil is poorly drained and heavy clays dominate. The winery enjoys an oceanic climate, with Mediterranean influences and moderate rainfall.
