One of the main characteristics of the buffalo is its extremely developed sense of smell, that allows it to accurately analyze odors. He thus recognizes edible or non-edible plants and feels coming predators, especially the lion. A buffalo sniffing is recognizable thanks to its attitude : it raises its head, stretches its muzzle and rolls up its lips. Like all herbivores, the buffalo has a very fine hearing. When it hears a noise, it turns its head towards the sounds to facilitate its perception. It reacts immediately by running away from danger, or charging as a last resort.
