Occi's ruins

0
The ghost village of Occi is by itself sufficient to tell the story of the Corsica island at the time of the barbarian invasions. In the 16th century, tired of being plundered by the Saracens, people left the coast and built the village on a promontory of 377 m (1,106 ft) altitude. It takes its name from the word eye evoking the splendid view on the Calvi Bay. From the 17th, the inhabitants began to desert Occi to settle in more prosperous villages like Lumio. The village crumbled and lost its last inhabitant in 1918.
