The ruins of former warehouses

The ruins of the Figuier warehouses are located in Rue Bouillé in the Quartier du Centre of Saint-Pierre, on the northwest coast of Martinique. These buildings implanted below the old battery of Esnotz were originally occupied by the soldiers who served the battery responsible for controlling the Baie de Saint-Pierre and protecting the city from possible maritime attacks. When Saint-Pierre became one of the most flourishing trading ports in the whole Caribbean, wealthy merchants set up their shops and warehouses there. The classification of Saint-Pierre as a Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (City of Art and History) in 1990 made it possible to discover the remains buried under mud and ashes.
